On 11 April 2020, the Malaysia Air Conditioning & Refrigeration Association (MACRA) donated 4 units of 1.5HP portable air conditioners, 4 units of air-coolers and one unit of 150L chest freezer to assist Hospital Ampang in its continuous effort to fight Covid-19.

MACRA president Datuk Andy Kwan said: “This is the second batch of equipment dispatched to hospitals in Malaysia. MACRA has been approached by the Ministry of Health to assist hospitals with the donation of ACMV equipment which comprised of more than 500 units.”

He elaborated, “The association is very aware of the difficulties faced by frontline medical staff who must wear ‘Personal Protective Equipment’ (PPE) while working, and hopes that the donated air-conditioning equipment would allow them to work in a more comfortable environment.” MACRA had previously donated 40 units of 1.0HP portable air-conditioners and 16 units of air-coolers to Hospital Kuala Lumpur.

The Ministry of Health (MOH) has made a wish-list of more than 500 items required for 48 hospitals across all states consisting of air-conditioning units, portable air-conditioning units, air-coolers, air purifiers, industrial fans and exhaust fans.

To help fulfil the wish list, MACRA has formed a task force of council committee members that includes its regional members in Sabah and Sarawak. MACRA continues to arrange additional batches of equipment to be dispatched to other hospitals in Malaysia.

MACRA promotes the interests of the ACMV & R industry in Malaysia, as well as encouraging and preserving the skills and means of the  industry. The association is also involved in elevating standards of ACMV & R and its ancillary activities aside from increasing public confidence in the industry across Malaysia as well as surrounding regions.

Mr Leong Hoong Fook, the managing director of ETS Bio Freeze Sdn Bhd is also a committee member of MACRA and participated in this donation drive.
